Hi Tommy,
Good to know you! I love the shore. I am a volunteer for the National Park Service at the Fire Island National Seashore. I love the oldies and the Doo Wop shows - they have so many locally these days too and we usually get a group together and reminisce afterwards. Where did the time go?
I do miss those simpler days. I work at JFK Airport as did some of the members of the old groups, like Frankie from the Capris. Still have my 45 record collection and a player - and love to sing along - pride myself with remembering all the words too!
I'm getting ready to leave work now, so I'll write again soon. This is a great site to meet folks we have things in common with! Glad I opened the link.
Sincerely,]
Lorraine

Hi Tommy, This site is great...I am so happy to be able to listen to all of the fifties music on Sunday, with the Ken Held DooWop Shop, on at 4 to 7 , on 1040, AM...It takes my head back to being a teenager, hanging out on my street corner, where our candy store "Norman's, had a juke box, and we used to drink sodas and dance, and later, sing outside...It was equivalent to living in Paradise...in Brooklyn...the best of times....are you still living in New Jersey...I am in Boca Raton, since 1981...loaded with New Yorkers here...like modern Brooklyn with Palm trees!!!!! keep in touch...Marlene

BEV seems to be correct. Actually the groups that sang DooWop so to speak...were commonly known as
street corner groups....at least that is what they were
referred to in my day...guys getting together harmonizing. All I know is I like the sound...and yes
Mills Bros. etc. were absolutely great...perfect harmony.
I watched American Bandstand (was a young mom at
the time..and my daughter would bop away in her
playpen)...Who was your cousin...I remember couples like Justine and Bob who were always in the
spotlight. Of course you know that started out as a local show in Pa. and then became televised nationwide. We, the tv audience, was introduced to
many future stars..like Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell
and so forth. I dont know what catagory you would
place them in...rock and roll I guess.
I would love to see the Broadway play about Frankie
Vali...I hear it is terrific. (The Four Seasons).....
There were so many groups from the fifties on....Jay
and the Americans...and now some of them are Vince
and the Phantones....it is hard to remember them all,
unless one hears the records. Of course, with
Motown...even more changes were made....but as an
affecionado of all types of music (except Rap and punk rock or blue grass..eeek)...I always find something that I enjoy listening to. Hey I even love
the oldies of the forties and the big bands...there have
been many remakes of their music but in a different
tempo.
In my day, we had great clubs..the Copa, the Embers,
Birdland, Basin Street East and so on. We were able to
sit ringside and listen to some of the greatest talents
on the planet.
I would like to also mention that I love Latin music...
salsa,...Tito Puente, Pupi Campo...and jazz is another
love...so there you have it....
There is always something for everyone.

I should have done a Top 100 because as I ponder of my Poll question, many tunes are popping into my pea brain. How about Berman Patterson and those Fabulous Cleftones?

One of the greatest of all times is The Charts doing "Desiree" I have to disagree with some of the choices some of you have made. Even though Dion is and always will be a great, I do not consider him to be Doowop. Doowop is harmony amongst groups such as the old Mills Brothers. The Duprees have it and so do many of the black groups. That's my 2 cents worth. LOL!
