Where are the Brooklyn kids

I REMEMBER THE SIDEWALK GAME OF SKELLY OR AS SOME CALL IT SKULLY. WE WOULD USE BOTTLE CAPS AND WHOLE BOXES OF CRAYONS TO MELT DOWN WITH MATCHES INTO THE BOTTLE CAPS. MY MOM WOULD HAVE A FIT IF SHE NEW WE WERE USING MATCHES AND GOOD CRAYONS . WE HID IN THE ALLEY WAY SO NO ONE WOULD SEE US. MY SISTER AND I ALSO PLAYED STICKBALL AND HANDBALL WITH THE BOY'S.

18TH AVENUE AND 52ND STREET BROOKLYN WAS A GREAT PLACE TO BE IN THE 50'S. THERE WAS ALWAYS KIDS TO
PLAY WITH AND PLACES TO GO. IN THE SUMMER THERE WAS
CONEY ISLAND AND THE STEEPLECHASE POOL. THE PUBLIC SCHOOL'S WERE ALWAYS OPEN FOR SUMMER RECREATION.

WE NEVER SAT IN THE HOUSE, AND WE DIDN'T HAVE A TV UNTILL 1954, SO WE WOULD WALK TO THE WALKER THEATRE ON SATURDAY'S WITH OUR ALLOWANCE MONEY AND STAY FOR 2 SHOWS. WHEN WE WERE NOT AT THE MOVIES WE WERE ROLLER SKATING AT THE PROSPECT PARK ROLLER RINK.

hey carolr,
what did you do with the bottle caps?
how was the game played?
I could imagine the fear of being found out by mom.
sounds great.

Shaun,

The game was called Skully. It was a game played on the street with a bottle cap loaded with crayon wax. We are doing a section in the film devoted to the game and all of the rules...etc.
