Ken Hil Split-Ball

I'm going to go back for a moment to the forties as a teenager in Jamaica, Queens where we played a very hot & fast game of "Split-Ball". Using the same Spaulding pink-ball, we would cut it in half on the seam. There was a pitcher, catcher,& three fielders, positioned at the three manhole covers, much the same as regular "Stick-ball"or the many city-wide variations on this fantastic game. It was much more difficult, fast & if you got hit in the face with that pink-missile, well you ha… Continue

Ok.. just some of the terms.. EGGBALL.. if you played stickball you know what this is.. the IMPOSSIBLE ball to catch.. it kind of flattens out to a flying saucer shaped ball and when it hits the ground can shoot almost anywhere. someitimes nj i think.
Peg leg patterson... the old bag whos stoop we played stickball in front of. unfortunately her house was at the end of the block. Mrs Patterson had one leg. Her front door was the stop when the catcher didnt do a good job or a foul ball was hit

Kevin Lowry Boodies Up

Anybody ever play Boodies Up? It wasn't a game, it was a punishment for losing a game. You had to bend over and grab your ankles with your butt in the air and stay there while everyone took turnes throwing the ball at your boodie as hard as possible. You could call it at the beginning of any game. Continue

Kevin Lowry Chips on the ball

I'm from Flushing, 1959-1980. St. Michaels school 1-7 and then a commute to Fordham Prep in the Bronx for High School.

When I saw the ball go in the sewer on the movie trailer I remembered CHIPS. If you called CHIPS on the ball before the game started, whoever lost it had to pay for it or replace it. Of course, this led to some great debates over who's fault it actually was that the ball got lost, so we adopted the "last person to touch it rule". Even that was often the bode of content

Gumersindo Vidot EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICW"

Staying focus and committed It’s easier to say then to do no matter how focus you are there will always be distractions. Some will be small that you can easily hurdle over, but some are greater then one could imagine that come fast. Now I had something new to learn before I can pack my backs and go in search for whatever I was looking for in my life. How to stay focus, and committed was new to me. I’m that same guy who played Russian roulette with the Savage Skulls, dropped out of school, and n… Continue

Sure, I drove through it a few times in the past, but this time I wanted to get out of my car and walk around Creston Ave and in St. James Park at 192nd street, Fordham r… Continue

RemingtonN Memories of The Street Games

I grew up living in the streets of New York and been playing street games with my friends, brothers and cousins. There is this street stickball or known as “baseball” now. It was fun and I really missed it a lot. Whenever it rains, we usually go to the abandoned grass field of New York and paly some soccer games and often coming back home full of mad and scratches in our faces and body but the smiles and laughter filled our innocent hearts and soul are seen in our faces. Now, we have all our ey… Continue

RemingtonN Skully - Children's Game On NY Street

(Wikipedia.org) Skully (also called skelly, skelsy, skellzies, scully, tops or caps) is a children's game played on the streets of New York City and other urban areas. Sketched on the street usually in chalk, a skully board allows a game for two to six players. A sidewalk is sometimes used, offering greater protection from vehicular traffic; however, the asphalt on a typical city street is smoother and provides better game play than a bumpy cement sidewalk. Also this wont need any… Continue

RemingtonN Fun on street

I remember when I was just a kid, growing in rural side of Ohio, my friends fun of street games. It is said that a street game is a sport or game that is played on city streets rather than a prepared field. Street games are usually simply playtime activities of children in the most convenient venue. However some street games have risen to the level of organized tournaments, such as stickball or baseball as what we all known.
