About The Movie

New York Street Games discusses the origins of the street games that were played and shared by all children within inner city neighborhoods. The film profiles all of the games we played and loved as kids. We revisit Stickball, Boxball, Skully, Punchball, Ring-a-Levio, Jonny on a Pony, Stoopball, Over the Line, Chinese Handball and many more.

The film addresses the social and cultural importance of these games and the sense of community they engendered. Communities, and the games played on the streets of those communities, were a big part of our entertainment and our physical activity. We address why this no longer seems to be the case. We also debate if technology, which has been a major contributor to today’s more sedentary forms of entertainment, is good for children’s wellbeing.

New York Street Games captures a special time in American history and is a look back at all things great about New York and past generations.

Hey Matt & Craig,
I've been telling people about the upcoming movie and I have been active daily on the web site. Gee, wouldn't it be a cool thing to give a pair of tickets for the screening to your #1 fan & supporter? :)

I am currently living in Cheyenne Wyoming, I would love to see the movie. It looks great, I remember all of those games. I cannot wait to come home in Feb for a month. I am living in a place where people do not have a clue. They dont know what it is to come from NYC and have these kinds of stories.

Yo from Philly. I'm still waitin' for youse to come down and play a tournament with/against us. We would play fair, just like the old days! Doesn't matter whether it is Jonny on the Pony or Buck Buck! If Youse can get your cans down here we'll kick em for ya! I'm from Olney(pronounced Ah'-lon-eee) and we are too old to fight but we can still do stick ball or wall ball or halfies or anything else youse got. You describe it and we'll tell you what we call it down here. Do I have your attention? First one to yell "car!" wins!
